The Threshing Floor (general)

The hosts of the Threshing Floor are all big book nerds. There, it is out in public. While we all have different books we absolutely love, we want to share a few certain books with you.

In this episode, each of our three hosts share their own opinion of the best books for Wesleyans. They run the gamut from modern books to foundational documents for the Wesleyan movement.

We another conversation about what excites us in modern contemporary worship. Worship music is taking a turn in artistic and contextual direction. There are Catholic writers (Matt Maher, Audrey Assad) as well as local churches developing their own cultural sound (Hillsong Young & Free, Elevation, Mars Hill).

On the completely unrelated side  some thoughts about movies in 2014 come up, Chad shares the Maximus theory about Russell Crowe movies and Joshua sounds like Optimus Prime. We talk about a funny little mix up with the Seedbed App podcast feed in the last episode.

What is your recommendation for the best book(s) for Wesleyans?

The Threshing Floor podcast is terribly excited to jump into 2014. Our first full episode with Seedbed centers around a conversation about why the hosts are Wesleyan. All three of us grew up outside of, but influenced by, a Wesleyan theological framework. We found out almost all of our reasons center around worship, experience, holiness and grace.

We also had conversations about our predictions for 2014 and Joshua's fascination with preacher techno. You can hear more of that here.

Our hosts are also writing blog posts on the topic. You can find them at Joshua Toepper, Drew Causey and Chad Brooks. We would absolutely love to hear your reasons why you are wesleyan. Share your thoughts and links in the comments below.

In this episode of The Threshing Floor our hosts talked about why they love Advent and what it was like journeying towards celebrating Advent. All three of our hosts grew up in a non-liturgical traditions, so Advent is a recent holiday for them.

Chad interviews JD Walt, sower in chief of Seedbed.com about the new relationship between The Threshing Floor and Seedbed.

As always, there is some great off topic banter. Our closing song is from The Opiate Mass's record "From the Belly of a Woman". It is their rendition of the classic advent song "For Unto Us a Child is Born". You can get their music from the usual places and The Threshing Floor is a big fan of The Opiate Mass.

Episode 006: The Walking Dead and our Desert Island Books

In the 6th episode of The Threshing Floor our hosts close out the season with two conversations. The first focuses on the development of the 4th season of "The Walking Dead" and how the zombie apocalypse really defines what it means to be human. The second conversation focuses on why Joshua is a cheater. Actually, it is a discussion on the "desert island" book each host would take with him.

At the end of the episode we make a very special announcement regarding the 2nd and any future season of The Threshing Floor!

Episode 005: Guest Conversation with Mike Gammill

Episode 5 is our first guest interview. Mike Gammill is a Lead Navigator at Auxano, an organization specializing in vision clarity. Mike is a friend and gave us TONS of podcast gold.

Also on the docket is our conversation about Louisiana birthday traditions and Billy Corgan's interview with CNN on contemporary Christian music.

As the three hosts journey off into somewhat charted waters, they discuss a plethora of topics. These include World War Z, childhood television shows and weight loss. This is also the first episode failing to mention Willie Nelson, quite the feat!

The serious side of things focuses on spiritual practices, the things we do to stay close to God. The spiritual life is the intentional life.

The Magnificent Three take on several somewhat related topics, and unlike another ill fated episode 1 ours doesn’t involve Jar Jar!

The focus of the conversation is the tornado is Moore, OK earlier this week and John Piper’s subsequent comment. You can read the exact information and Piper’s response here. We talk about theological determinism, a particular persuasion some Christians hold. The larger conversation centers on a discussion of God choosing (or not choosing) to cause pain.
You can also expect several alternate topics like Online Dating and the benefits of a personal theme song.
All in just 45 minutes!
